Pregnancy and preparation for a new little one can be exhilarating and exciting, but there’s always one person that truly takes a back seat to any attention: the dad. My husband and I consider ourselves a team and we strive to run as such. Even in these times where he’s attentive, aware, and present in this moment with me, he still doesn’t get the true benefit of the baby until her arrival. It’s not on purpose; it’s just the nature of it all.
As I am nesting and started working on my hospital bag for labor, I had this bright idea to help my husband get his “bag” together for the hospital, as well. After all, he will be there every waking minute, so why not make this exciting for him too? My goal is simple: make him feel loved and included.
I did a search for men’s hospital bag ideas, and of course, there aren’t many articles out there that will cater to the guys. I love being different and this gave me a chance to flex my skills a bit. 🙂 For J’s bag, I decided to get him something that could also serve a dual purpose: serve as a hospital bag for my labor and a diaper bag after she arrives. This bag came fully loaded with pockets and compartments galore, an insulated pocket to keep bottles warm or cold, a side for grabbing wipes at a moment’s notice, and a changing mat. I wanted to eliminate any excuse to need anything and this bag seemed to have it all! When she arrives, he can fill it with snacks, toys, books, bottles, diapers – everything he’ll need to be prepared and still look cool while doing it.
Until she’s here, I decided to make it his hospital bag and fill it with his fave snacks, toiletries, pjs, shower shoes, and more. Needless to say he thoroughly appreciated it and was very happy I thought enough of him in this jumbled mind of mine to set aside a little something special for him to enjoy.
