I’m not sure where in life as a little girl you learn to criticize yourself. Maybe it’s when someone points out that you’re different and they compare you to each other. Maybe it’s when a boy you like chooses your friend over you in middle school, only for you to wonder “what does she have over me?” Be as it may, we as little girls grow up to be women who spend the rest of our lives trying to fix what we hate about ourselves.

To prove this notion, Dove conducted a sketch campaign in which a former Forensic Sketch Artist had women describe themselves to him behind a curtain and he would draw them according to their descriptions. Then the ladies would meet complete strangers, still not revealing themselves to him, and the strangers would describe the woman they’d met to the sketch artist. The results in his work are astonishing! It’s amazing how different people view you than yourself.

Check out this video below…it will blow your mind.

For me, there are things I’m definitely critical of and I am my own worst critic. I’ve been teased about why my eyes were so big, why my legs were so long, why my skin was so dark…you name it. Even now I get “why do you wear your hair like that? Don’t you want to straighten it?” The list is never ending. While these things may have been talked about by some, I find they are my favorite and best traits (physically). After seeing this video, those little things I’m critical of, I’m teaching myself to love.  I am more beautiful than I think…and you are too!

What a relevant topic. We as women ARE really our own worst critics. Thank you, as always, for your positive tone and real-world beauty perspective. Love it!! 🙂
