In this journey to feel my best, I decided to add Brazilian waxing to my regimen of necessary things to do to achieve that goal. I’ve been a fan of the razor for eons now, however I let a girlfriend of mine give me the rundown of her experience, so I went for it! Needless to say: it is DEFINITELY an experience!!  LOL After months of trying it, I decided to share with my readers on the best steps and important pointers to take to ensure a great waxing experience.  I am truly a fan & recommend it to anyone looking to take their beauty experience to a new level.

Let’s get started.

-Approximately 30-45 minutes before getting a Brazilian Wax, take Ibuprofen. If you know you are sensitive and have a low tolerance for pain, take an aspirin in powder form (try BC Powders) for maximum strength. This is extremely important to ensure you can handle the experience. I made the mistake of not doing this my first time and it HURT!!!

-E.X.F.O.L.I.A.T.E. I can’t stress this step enough. A little sugar scrub in the shower will do. Exfoliate the skin very well to remove the dead skin cells that have built up. If you can’t right before you get waxed, do this the night before.

-Waxing strips are outdated! Make sure your waxer uses the wax that serves as the strip when it is applied. Once the wax cools against the skin, it’s pulled off and removes hair. Hope you didn’t cringe. You’ve taken some aspirin so you’ll be able to handle that. 🙂

-Don’t. Be. Embarrassed. Like your gyno that looks at…that…all day; so does your esthetician. She sees it ALL and she’s going to make sure she’s done a thorough job (and I do mean THOROUGH). That’s her job to make sure you are hair-free. Front AND back.

-Your first time will take at least 30 minutes. The hair is a lot thicker so it takes more effort to get it all off. Don’t schedule your first time around a busy day.

-Schedule appts. 1 week after your cycle. Your skin is less likely to be sensitive than it would 1 week before your cycle.

-Communicate with your esthetician on any requests, concerns, or techniques she may use.

Now some of you may wonder why put yourself through this for beauty. Waxing has benefits!

-You’ll feel much cleaner and smoother

-Maintenance is minimal; it will not grow back as fast or thick like it would if you shaved.

-You don’t have to worry about the “prickly/cheese grater” feeling anymore. It grows back very fine & barely there.

-You only have to go back 4-6 weeks afterwards for another wax!

If you’re thinking about taking the plunge, I say try it! Do not base your first time experience in terms of how it feels as gospel.  Like working out, detoxing, or any other beauty ritual, there will be some pain associated with it.  When you keep doing it, it gets easier.  Let’s keep it real: a 5 o’clock shadow “down there” from shaving is not what’s hot this season – or any season, for that matter!

Please understand that everyone’s experience will be different.  You are the ultimate one to make the judgement if this beauty technique is right for you.

Also, find a waxer that has a consistent satisfaction and cleanliness ratings. Utilities like YELP, Kudzu, and Google are very helpful. Know before you go!
