In this day and age, everyone is always on the go. Answering emails, setting appointments, lunch dates, that new Apple technology that just launched (Hello – iPad 2?!), and the ever-addicting Crackberry can keep us busy for eons! Our days are always so filled with fluff and stuff that we even have a hard time cutting out the fluff for the sake of feeling like you’re not doing something. As I mature in life, I’ve learned that “activity doesn’t mean productivity”. You have to learn to pick and choose those things which are important to exert your energy towards and which shouldn’t get a double-take.
Loren Ridinger of Loren Jewels had a blog posted that was so fitting for this subject. It’s titled 6 Daily Habits To Simplify Your Life. Here are the 6 Daily Habits she highlights in her post:
1. Challenge your mind with new activities, skills and information.
I am a firm believer that if you’re not trying something new, you’re bound to end on Stagnant Avenue. In life, you have to be willing to take a risk. What holds us back is fear of failing. Instead of over-analyzing and nit-picking what could go wrong, analyze those things that could go right and provide the ultimate benefit.
2. Your mind is part of your body. Fuel, exercise and rest your body properly.
Exercise, proper eating, and SLEEP is oh, so important. I know many that frown upon sleep with the fear they may lose out on something. On the contrary, your mind is like a computer. Sleep allows the brain to process and organize everything properly so that you can actually focus.
3. Pay attention now. Concentrate on the present.
I have a tough time dealing with this. I’ve always been a planner and organizer – not to mention an Aquarius…we’re future thinkers!!! Once I accomplish something, I find myself thinking about the next thing. I’ve always been a multi-tasker, but I’m teaching myself to slow down and chill out!!!
4. Rehearse information frequently – ‘over-learn.’
Over-learning is a method to allow one to sharpen the mind. When you take what you’ve learned in the day, then take the time to mentally rehearse it allows you to increase knowledge and retain information.
5. Develop and nurture long-lasting, stimulating relationships.
This is so very important. Learn how to choose and cling to friends that bring positivity to your life. If you find yourself always giving and giving, only to find yourself lacking in return, it’s time to move on! Long lasting relationships are good for the mental health and mind. Learn to choose wisely!
6. Be motivated, keep a positive attitude and find something to smile about.
Before those negative thoughts begin to creep in the mind, replace them with something positive. What motivates you? Attitude determines altitude. Make a conscience effort to keep your mind motivated to do the things that bring happiness to your life.
