When you’re in the NBA and you have 82 games to play during the season, plus games during the Finals, most would agree that the summer time is a time for rest and relaxation. When R&R is not on the agenda, hitting the gym or brushing up on skills to prepare for the next season is usually on the menu. During this time when players are now suiting up for camps, Boston Celtic Point Guard, Rajon Rondo, spent his time on an unpaid fashion internship during Fashion Week with his favorite magazine, GQ.

Press Release

Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is joining GQ as fashion intern for New York Fashion Week, it was announced today by Jim Nelson, GQ editor-in-chief. His status as an intern is effective today.

Rondo will be working closely with GQ’s fashion department, led by Jim Moore, the magazine’s creative director. Rondo will also be attending fashion shows with GQ editors and will be writing about his experience for GQ.com.

“I love the set-up so far and I’m having fun. I’m still a rookie at this,” said Rondo of his new position. “I’m humble. Anything GQ needs me to do—getting coffee—I’ll do. In my position, I haven’t done things like this in my entire life. It’s fun doing what I do, but it’s nice getting the flipside of that 9 to 5.”

In my opinion, I’ve always liked Rondo’s style, on and off the court. When it comes to style, he doesn’t try too hard with his choices and does just enough to execute a well put together ensemble. Rondo’s internship allows him to delve into the world of fashion behind the scenes and understand how things come together from an insider’s perspective. What’s even greater is he had the chance to do this like anyone else looking for an internship: free & on a 10-6 time schedule.

I commend Rondo for stepping outside his normal surroundings to learn about something new, especially fashion. GQ is such a fantastic brand and a wonderful platform for men worldwide.
