brazilian-wax

So a couple of years ago, I wrote this post on how to prepare for a Brazilian wax so that it could be somewhat of a pleasant experience. However, after some time of getting waxed, things began to change in my experience and I had to find a better solution for service. Let me explain.

Without giving you the raw, having-brunch-with-girlfriends version, here’s the deets: getting Brazilian waxes hurt no matter how much you prep and prime. My post highlights all of the things you can do to prepare for your waxing session, but overall, it’s no walk in the park. For a ‘Sensitive Sally’ like myself, the wax is always too hot, it sticks to my skin, and after months of taking that, my skin started to feel SORE at least 3 days after getting serviced. Yes, sore. Now I understand pain is beauty and of course getting your cat snatched {raw moment} is no cake walk. However, being sore was the last straw! Just as I was about to bite on a leather strap and go back to get waxed, my girlfriend schooled me on getting “sugared” and her wonderful experience.

According to the Sweet Peach Wax website:

Sugaring, an ancient middle-eastern practice that uses an all-natural paste made from sugar, water, and lemon juice to remove the hair follicle from the root.

There are no was preservatives or resin in the unique sugar paste. Sugaring is also less painful than waxing because the sugar adheres to only the hair, not the skin.

My girlfriend is always a trusted source when it comes to beauty advice. In true fashion, I usually have to whine when it comes to hair removal, but I always end up falling in love with it. She told me about Sweet Peach Wax, located in the Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta.  I figured since regular waxing feels like fire and brimstone left to harden against my skin, sugaring couldn’t be any worse than that. So I made an appointment and went.

Sweet Peach Wax & Sugaring Studio

The aesthetics were very appealing and everything was very clean. Each room is sanitized after every client. What’s even cooler:  Sex & the City episodes are playing in each room while you get serviced! It’s a great way to take your mind off of what’s happening versus talking.  The session was quite pleasant. The process is simple: apply thick wax, a tug, apply more wax, a tug.

When she started, I didn’t even know it! The sensation from pulling was minimal since my skin wasn’t attached to the wax. Instead of waxing huge chunks at one time, the areas were a lot smaller than what I was used to, which made it much more bearable. The entire session takes anywhere from 10-15 minutes tops! The results were wonderful and maintaining everything was amazing!

The verdict

I am S-O-L-D on sugaring! There was no hot slathered wax on parts and pieces. No one holding a fan close to areas to get the wax to stick and harden. No La Maz breathing exercises.  None. of. that. If you’re sensitive and sincerely over the pain of feeling like hot, bubbling tar is being snatched from your epidermis every time you get a Brazilian, I would definitely recommend Sweet Peach Wax for a Brazilian sugaring.

  • Reading what you had to say about things like Brazilian sugaring and waxing was really encouraging. My wife has always wanted to try something like this, and I do think that it’s something she can get around to doing since it won’t cause her much pain. I’ll take your advice and go look for a Brazilian waxing spa for sure that can help my wife.
