First Lady Style

On Monday, the world of all things internet was buzzing about Michelle Obama’s ensembles for the historic Inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C.

No matter your affiliation or party, you have to admit: FLOTUS looked fabulous! And what about those bangs? She bangs. #loveit

There was some criticism about her Inauguration outfit (See photo above). For the record, I’d clearly love to see them try to wear something that didn’t impose frostbite on all their major and minor body parts and still have hair that bounced like an angel’s wings fluttering in the wind, skin like satin, and a presence like Tinkerbell glitter. I’m done. The shade has to end. Neverthess, the FLOTUS sported a gorgeous navy-silk, checkered-pattered coat and dress by designer, Thom Browne. She added pieces like suede boots and J. Crew gloves for an extra pop of color. So fitting and fab for the occasion.

If you wanted to re-create this look, here are a couple of options you can use:

-Take the FLOTUS’ approach and pair it with gloves that serve as a “pop” of color. For this weather, leather is the best bet.

-You can also take the approach and add a nice leather bag to the mix. The jacket/dress has a checkered/tweed pattern to it. A solid bag in black or a color will definitely balance it out with a leather texture.

-I have such an appreciation for scarves, especially when it get super cold outside. This ensemble could also pair well with knit scarves, from grays to your typical jewel-tones. Like the bag, you want to make sure your scarf is a solid color to avoid clashing with the pattern in the coat.
