Last night my Hubby & I went to the movies to see the movie ‘Sparkle’, starring Jordin Sparks and the late Whitney Houston. Honestly, I wasn’t too sure I wanted to see it, on account of still feeling heavy hearted about Whitney and plus I’m not the biggest fan of going to the movies. However, I felt the need to see it, simply because I have always adored music & fashion. I can honestly say I am so glad I decided to go. The movie was phenomenal. While I won’t give away any details, the movie takes you there and allows you to get lost in a great story, sparking every emotion from happiness, love, and laughter to anger and sadness. It takes you there!
The fashion…OMG the fashion. The costume designs had my insides on ’10’ the entire time. The dresses, hair, and makeup during their performances were absolutely stunning, breathtaking, and fitting for the decade without trying too hard. These girls are undoubtedly sexy!
I especially enjoyed the acting in this film. The beautiful sisters, played by Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter, and Carmen Ejogo, along with Whitney Houston as their mother, make the story come to life. My favorite was definitely Tika’s character, Dolores. Her take-none attitude reminded me a lot of myself from beginning to end! 🙂
I especially enjoyed Mike Epps. This is the first time I had the chance to see Mike in this type of role. He really took it there with this movie! Then there’s Whitney. She not only gave it her best in this role, our theater was filled with emotion when she sang. The previews don’t do it justice. You have to see it to understand what I mean.
If you are a fan of the ‘Motown Sound’ and love music and a great story, I urge you to see ‘Sparkle’. I’m so glad I did.
