One of the many mornings I’m thumbing through my Instagram feed, I came across a photo of a very delicious looking bowl of something. It was purple, sprinkled with chia seeds, perfectly placed strawberries, bananas, and blueberries and drizzled with coconut flakes. What on earth is that?! After doing a little digging, I found out it was an acai bowl. An “a-what-a bowl”, you ask? Here’s the scoop:

The acai (ah-sigh-EE) berry is a grape-like fruit harvested from acai palm trees, which are native to the rainforests of South America. Acai berries contain antioxidants, fiber and heart-healthy fats. They may have more antioxidant content than other commonly eaten berries, such as cranberries, blueberries and strawberries. -Brent A. Okay so now you get that. But what is an acai bowl? It’s basically a smoothie in a bowl. Frozen packs of acai is blended with your favorite fruits, nut butters, or honey, into a thick smoothie. Then it’s topped with your own specialty of favorite fruits and toppings.

I was bit skeptical at first. A smoothie in a bowl…first thing in the morning? So I decided to give it a whirl to see for myself.

The result: DE-LI-CIOUS! Not to mention, it was completely easy to make!

This bowl is a wonderful option to switch up from the usual bowl of corn flakes or oatmeal you’re always used to eating. It’s full of antioxidants and gives you a complete boost in the morning. Not to mention it’s just pretty to look at!
